Installing Google +1 Button

First was Facebook‘s ‘Like‘ link which a friend can click if he agreed or wanting to endorse your wall update without the need to write a comment. You also click Like on a news feed if you mean to express your satisfaction with its content and be included in the list of members with the same feeling about it. Some online forums have similar ways of getting the members’ approval or disapproval of a posted comment by providing plus (+) or minus (-) signs that interested signed-in readers can click.

Now, it’s Google’s turn to implement ‘+1 Button‘ which to them is shorthand for “this is pretty cool” or “you should check this out.” Plus One (+1) Button when installed in a blog will let visitors recommend its pages right in Google search results and help the site stand out.

Unlike in Facebook where some members sometime Liked their own post, the use of +1 Button is governed by Google +1 Button Policy and the blog owner is not allowed to click it just like in Adsense.  Also, bloggers may not direct readers to click the +1 Button for purposes of misleading users. Bloggers should not promote prizes, monies, or monetary equivalents in exchange for +1 Button clicks.

Google publicized +1 Button early this month and had it automatically installed in some themes of free-hosted Blogspot blogs. At the same time, the codes and the procedure in installing +1 Button was published so some techies among bloggers already installed the webtool on their sites.

For non-techies like me who have their blogs in WordPress platform, there are already some plugins available. I used the Google +1 plugin developed by Appointy.com because my WordPress version is not compatible with the others.
