Maximizing Firefox Browsing Space

oac_267x200If you click the image on the left, it will open a big one showing how this page looked  above the fold in my desktop yesterday. I am using a Mozilla Firefox version 3.5.1 and you would notice that it has only two (2) instead of the usual four (4) toolbars  at the top and without the status bar at the bottom (only the Wibiya toolbar is shown). This is my way of maximizing the browsing space of Mozilla Firefox using the available extensions (plugins and/or add-ons). Do you want the same for your Firefox browser? Read  about how to do it and enjoy browsing the net with maximum desktop space attainable on a Firefox browser.

The following discussions assumes that you are already using Mozilla Firefox. If not, you have to download and install the latest version the browser by clicking this link. The fastest way to maximize the browsing space of Mozilla Firefox is, of course, by going to View >> Toolbars then uncheck Navigation Toolbar and Bookmarks Toolbar. If you want, you can also uncheck Status Bar from View Menu but you do not want to do this because you will have to reverse the procedure whenever you will need something form the toolbars you unviewed.

Maximizing Firefox browsing space the right way can be achieved by installing the following plugins and add-ons (click the name to download the recommended add-ons):

  • Tiny Menu – replace the standard menu bar with a tiny menu popup.
  • Fission – combines address bar and progress bar (Safari style). You must uncheck Status Bar from the View Menu after installing this extension.
  • Hide Tabbar – autohides the tabbar which will reappear when the mouse is moved over to the remaining toolbars.
  • NOTE:  You have to uncheck Navigation Toolbar, Bookmarks Toolbar and Status Bar from the View Menu after installing the above Firefox extensions.

I know there are many more ways to customize Mozilla Firefox and get its browsing space to maximum but I personally find the above the easiest to implement. There is also the truth that Google Chrome browser has only two (2) toolbars by default so why would one go through the process of customizing his Mozilla Firefox browser. I say, I stay with Firefox because of the many useful add-ons that I use in my daily chores in the Internet.

I shall blog more about the extensions I am using on my Firefox browser later. You can see the icons of some of them in the enlarged image on this blog post. In the meantime, can I get your comments on this topic?
